South African Guitar Styles “5-day Workshop 08 – 12 June”

Billy Monama in partnership with City of Joburg presents a special a 5-day workshop based on Monama’s forthcoming tutorial book – Introduction To South African Guitar Styles Vol.1 which will take place between 8 – 12 June 2021 from 10am to 2pm only at Joburg Theatre, Lesedi (formally known as Fringe)

This five day workshop will focus on the ground-breaking and distinctive role of South African Guitar Music that Billy Monama has been conducting research on as a Performing Guitarist, music student and later a Teacher and as well as from spending time with elderly South African Guitar Masters, has come to a realization that the uniquely South African style of playing Guitar is fast disappearing.
Monama will share his 25 years of Guitar experience alongside prolific, award- winning guitar expert’s and facilitators:
• • Themba Mokoena (Mbhaqanga & African Jazz)
• • Mbuzeni Mkhize (Maskanda),
• • Marhoya Chauke (xiTsonga),
• • Guest: Sipho Hotstix Mabuse (Guitar & Music Business)

There will be breakaway rooms (in isolation) for the purpose of each instrumentalists to spend time with their designated guitar facilitator for each style.

Due to COVID, only 40 participants will be admitted to the venue but workshop will be pre-recorded to be premiered on the 18th June 2021, 19:00 on all the online media platforms of Joburg Theatre and City of Joburg.

12 June, Performance by the participants, open to public – only 50 seats, booking is essential.
