Bru is a fast-paced, hilarious coming-of-age theatre production that follows Gazza and Googs, two young troublemakers who live for surfing, bunking school, and enjoying a good bunnychow. But their carefree coastal lifestyle comes crashing down when their frustrated parents decide it’s time for discipline. Their punishment? A fate worse than death: boarding school in Johannesburg.
Trapped in the city with no waves, no freedom, and no chance of escape, Gazza and Googs quickly realise they don’t belong in this world of rules and routines. Fed up with city life, they hatch a plan to break out and make their way back to Durban, chasing the ocean, adventure, and the life they know best.
Full of humour, youthful rebellion, and heart, Bru explores friendship, identity, and the wild lengths young people will go to in search of freedom.
The production is staged at Joburg Theatre, presented in partnership between POP Art and the Youth and Community Development Unit at Joburg Theatre.
Directed by Martin Grendele and Jo?l Leonard and written by Josh Martin.
