DEMI SAPIEN

Contemporary Dance Company, Willside, Launches Its Debut
Theatre Dance Production DEMI-SAPIEN at Joburg Theatre.

Willside, a Pretoria based professional contemporary dance company under the direction of Thato Nkwe, journeys into a tale titled DEMI-SAPIEN. It takes place during an international trade war where Lawrence, a Special Operations Forces officer, is assigned on a covert mission to assassinate an enemy forces lieutenant who is a key puzzle piece of the trade war. When Lawrence arrives on site, he finds remnants of a suicide. Upon his further investigation, Lawrence is made aware of the fate of a prisoner of war who was cruelly murdered and how this mysterious and unfortunate victim holds unprecedented information about Lawrence’s familial lineage. The reveal of this information takes Lawrence on a contentious quest with his commander to get to the truth of his own relation to this mysterious prisoner of war, among other things…

“DEMI-SAPIEN delves into the shadow world of a Special Operations Forces officer, who carries the responsibility of a thankless job as one of a nation’s fiercest defenders of its people. The nature of this brave nation protector’s job is routinely carried out clandestinely, protecting us from potential mortal threats we never knew lurked in the shadowed corners, thus affording us the ever valuable luxury of feeling and being safe.” –Thato Nkwe, Director of Willside

Willside welcomes you to the company’s debut production of DEMI-SAPIEN, an evening solo contemporary dance production which will be performed at Joburg Theatre on the 16 – 17 of September 2022, at 19h30 on both occasions for R150 per ticket.
