You are cordially invited to the launch of Imba, a film and music movement formed by a Television Producer/Director, Music Composer, Musician and Producer Wandile Funani ka Mnqanqeni. Wandile hails from Makwababa village in Cofimvaba Eastern Cape. The group currently has two lead vocalists; Nkeke Funani with her roots from a village called Medigen in Limpopo, but grew up in Johannesburg. Like most musicians, she started singing at church and family gatherings from the age of eight and entered the Coca Cola Pop Stars in 2001 but unfortunately she and the likes of Simphiwe Dana didn’t travel the whole journey to the finals of the competition. She had to find a day job but continued singing at church and other family and social gatherings until she met Wandile who she formed the group Imba with. The other lead vocalist is Wandile Funani ka Mnqanqeni.
Imba is currently making rounds on different radio stations including Umhlobo Wenene, Ukhozi Fm, Metro FM, Radio2000, Kaya fm, Channel Africa, Munghana Lonene FM and Radio Pulpit to mention but a few. The group’s last live performance was on 20 October 2018 at the Queenstown Jazz Festival. Their music ranges from Afro Soul, Jazz, Afro Cuban Beats and gospel for now hence their album tittle Versatile. Imba’s music is not confined within a certain genre as its co-founder Wandile is a versatile artist who besides creating television content, directing and producing had also started singing from childhood ezilalini zase Eastern Cape and sang choral and then opera when he got to Johannesburg. The current album is a nice mix/crossover of 13 songs of love and consciousness. The music is inspired by dreams and the visions the composer Wandile gets either in his sleep or while walking.
Imba’s primary objective is to use its influence to develop music & TV broadcasting skills throughout the country with more focus on rural communities. This will be demonstrated on the day by the introduction of one of their new artist from Mtubatuba Village KZN known as Skhalo who will together with Imba and other groups grace the audience with live performances.
