MACBETH (info)

Three witches whisper to Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, a growing greed for power and faith in the words of the fortune seeing witches, Macbeth takes the life of the king. Macbeth becomes the new king from his own hand but paranoia and knowledge of the vulnerability of a king’s life plague him and pollute his actions. Kings sit on shifting sands, only holding on to power through war and violence.

The Duma Ndlovu Academy with the Joburg Theatre engaged on a workshop process with young actors to find Shakespeare as seen and interpreted by a fresh and cosmopolitan African voice. This is Shakespeare in 2021 Africa, laced with music and passion that offers a new voice to the classics.

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by the DNA ensemble with Michael Mazibuko and Jerry Mntonga.
