For the first time in South Africa, the 2010 Broadway Tony-Award-Winning musical Memphis will be presented on the Nelson Mandela Theatre stage at Joburg Theatre, from February 2nd to March 7th 2021.  Memphis received Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations.

Memphis features a book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change and All Shook Up) and an original score with music by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan.

From the underground dance clubs of 1950’s Memphis, Tennessee, comes a crackling hot musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love.  Inspired by actual events, Memphis is about a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break.  Their incredible journey takes audiences to the ends of the airwaves – filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll.

Featuring an all-South African cast and band, Memphis is presented in South Africa by Joburg Theatre, Bernard Jay, Runaway Entertainment and Selladoor Worldwide.
