Oakfields College’s Faculty of Musical Theatre and Dance will bring Shakespeare’s beloved comedy to life in a fresh, vibrant and enchanting new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The Musical, performed at the Lesedi Theatre, Johannesburg, from 28 to 30 August 2026.
Presented by the first-, second- and third-year students of the Faculty of Musical Theatre and Dance, this production invites audiences into a world where nothing is quite as it seems. When the fairy kingdom decides to meddle in the affairs of mortals, one enchanted forest becomes the stage for a night of irresistible chaos. Led by the mischievous Puck and the watchful Oberon, the fairies delight in leading the human world astray, weaving spells that turn love upside down, friendships inside out, and certainty into confusion.
Lost lovers, bumbling actors and magical creatures collide in a whirlwind of mistaken identities, hilarious misunderstandings and breathtaking enchantment. As moonlight gives way to dawn, every character discovers that the path to true love is rarely straightforward, and that sometimes losing your way is the only way to find yourself.
Directed by Tracey Human, with musical direction by Dale Ray, A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The Musical promises infectious music, exhilarating choreography, striking visual storytelling and a touch of theatrical magic.
The production features Oakfields College Musical Theatre and Dance students in the roles, with guest appearances by Danny Meaker and Sandi Dlangalala, as well as Oakfields College lecturer and guest performer, Grant Towers.
This latest production reflects the Faculty of Musical Theatre and Dance’s commitment to practical, industry-focused performing arts training. Oakfields College students are trained across singing, acting and dance, with live performance forming an essential part of their development as young performers. Productions such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The Musical give students the opportunity to apply their training in a professional theatre environment while gaining valuable stage experience.
