WOMEN EXPO JOBURG – THRU THE LENS (info)


Women Expo Joburg- Thru the Lens is a networking platform that showcases women in the film, television and photography industries. The event is for professional and well-experience industry
leaders who will share their wisdom with emerging and aspiring women who are still finding their feet in the industry.The sole purpose of this event is to arm women with tools that will Educate, Empower and Enrich. The event will feature addresses by guest speakers, screenings, a panel discussion, a Pitch competition and exhibitions by production companies, film schools and film funding bodies. Women Expo Joburg- Thru the Lens will consist of female industry leaders, filmmakers, photographers, production houses, directors, writers, actresses, editors and cinematographers.

“When opportunity Knocks”

A panel discussion with the theme of “When opportunity knocks” will be led by the likes of Mukundi Lambani (48 Hour Film Project), Mokganwana Mokgalong (HER Africa Film Festival Director) and
Olefa Yalo (She.Clix Photography.) The discussion will explore various topics, including issues of representation, funding and other opportunities, writing, distribution as well as opportunities across the African continent.

Pitch Competition
Emerging filmmakers are invited to take part in a Pitch your concept Competition on the day. The winner receives prizes worth R30 000, Budget to execute concept a feature in Essays of Africa
Magazine and other print media, TV interviews on GauTV and Slaghuis TV. The submission deadline is 30 September 2017. The winner will be announced on the day.
